Maintenance Secrets: Keeping Your Parquet and Chairs Like New in Nepal’s Climate

Buying high-quality flooring and furniture from Shreya Interior Pvt. Ltd is the first step. The second step is maintenance. Nepal’s environment—characterized by heavy monsoon rain and dry, dusty winters—presents unique challenges for wood and fabric.

How to Protect Your Parquet Flooring:

  • The “No-Wet-Mop” Rule: Water is the enemy of wood. In Nepal, we often use lots of water to clean, but for parquet, a damp microfiber cloth is enough. Never let water sit on the surface, especially during the humid monsoon months.
  • The Dust Shield: Kathmandu’s dust is abrasive. It acts like sandpaper under your shoes. Placing high-quality doormats at every entrance and using felt pads under your chair legs will prevent micro-scratches.
  • Sunlight Management: Strong UV rays through your windows can “sun-bleach” your wood. Use sheer curtains during the day to protect the rich color of your parquet.

Keeping Your Office Chairs in Top Shape:

  • Fabric Care: If you have a fabric chair, vacuum it once a week. For mesh chairs, a simple wipe with a damp cloth keeps the pores open and breathable.
  • Check the Hardware: Every few months, check the screws under the seat. The vibrations of daily use can loosen them. A quick tighten ensures the chair remains stable and silent.
  • Wheel Maintenance: If your chair isn’t rolling smoothly on your parquet, check the casters (wheels). Hair and dust often get trapped there. Cleaning them prevents them from scratching your beautiful floor.
